It all began back in January 2001, when we were trying to figure out where we wanted to take our timeshare vacation for the year. We visited the website of Interval International and were looking at things on the western coast of the US. We crept up the coast to Oregon and discovered Whale Pointe, a condo resort in Depoe Bay, Oregon. We wanted to go during the summer, but it was high season, and they were booked. So we started to get creative and spent extensive time researching the web. What started as a trip to the Pacific coast soon evolved into a 10-day excursion through parts of Oregon and Washington.

This was a different sort of trip for us - truly an adventure - and we have decided to deviate from our usual format in order to provide as extensive information as possible. We have this narrative, under the Vacation section. And since we stayed at 8 different small inns, we have written each up separately under the Inn section. We have included pictures on the Inn pages and in this narrative, and there is a picture page as well. We researched the entire trip over the Internet, including using www.mapsonus.com to determine distances and times between destinations. We knew we were hitting peak season, so we booked the entire trip 5 months in advance (in February). It took a bit of planning, but we think it allowed us to maximize our enjoyment. We used online forms to send away for quite a bit of visitor information that helped us a great deal, both in our planning and on the actual trip. We hope you enjoy reading about our adventure.

Itinerary

Day One - Tacoma
Arrive at SeaTac airport, drive to our first B&B, The Villa in Tacoma.

Day Two - Hood River
Drive from Tacoma, Washington to Hood River, Oregon. We followed the Columbia River and passed many sites like Multnomah Falls.

Day Three - Hood River
Experience Hood River, the Columbia River, and Mt Hood.

Day Four - Depoe Bay
Drive from Hood River to the Oregon coast town of Depoe Bay..

Day Five - Depoe Bay
Experience the Depoe Bay area, including the Sea Lion Caves, lighthouses, and a whale watching tour.

Day Six - Cannon Beach
Drive up the Oregon coast from Depoe Bay to Cannon Beach, including seeing Haystack Rock, the second largest standing monolith in the world.

Day Seven - Port Angeles
Drive from Cannon Beach to Port Angeles, Washington. This was our stopping off point to catch an early ferry to the San Juan Islands the next morning.

Day Eight - Friday Harbor
Drive and ferry from Port Angeles to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

Day Nine - Orcas Island
Ferry from Friday Harbor to Orcas Island.

Day Ten - Seattle
Ferry and drive from Orcas Island to Seattle. Visit the Space Needle and rest up for the trip back home.
